🏠 JUNE 2024 STUDIO HOMEBASE

THANK YOU!

On behalf of the Stanford Life Design Lab, thank you for joining us in person for our June Life Design Studio. This website will continue to be a repository of resources from our time together.

Feel free to reach out at any time to Dustin at dustyliu@stanford.edu if you have any additional resources you would like to add onto this page.

Until next time, Studio crew!

PREPARING FOR STUDIO

STUDIO PRE-WORK (LINKED HERE)

  • On Day 2 of our training, we will be diving into our views on work and life. These reflections that you will engage with will form part of the foundational structure of the life design curriculum.

  • We will be sharing the workview and the worldview reflections in small group breakouts during the second day of our training. You will not need to share the social identity reflection. Please consider this pre-work as important in supporting your Studio experience. It should take around 2 hours of your time to complete all 3 reflection activities.

WHAT DO I BRING?

  • When you arrive, we will have all the materials you need to participate. We invite you to consider your needs for a workshop of this nature and bring anything that would support your learning.

  • There are no activities that require you bringing a computer — some teams find it helpful to collaborate digitally on their prototypes. Whatever you choose, we’ll make it work.

  • The weather in Palo Alto in June is between 65-75 degrees. There is no dress code other than wearing something that makes you feel comfortable. A light jacket might be helpful in the evenings when it can get a bit colder. We’ll be doing some walking around campus so bringing shoes you feel comfortable to move around in would be ideal!

WHAT TO EXPECT

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • We’ll be in small group conversations and working in radical collaboration with one another throughout our time in Studio. You can expect moving around the space; identifying colors; reading, listening, and seeing slides; and building things with various materials!

  • If you are coming with folks from your institution, you will be paired with them in our prototyping groups. If you are coming as a solo participant, we will match you with others curious about similar student needs.

  • Dinner will be provided on the first night. On Days 2, 3 & 4 we will have breakfast and lunch provided. Ask us for dinner recommendations after each day :)

  • If you have nay needs that have emerged, please email DustyLiu@stanford.edu. We want to ensure that this experience works for you.

GETTING TO CAMPUS

Our training will be held at Stanford University in Building 550 Peterson Laboratory, colloquially named the d.school. We’ve put together some instructions based on how you’re getting to campus.

Coming from rideshare services (Uber / Lyft): Enter the following address into your rideshare app: 424 Panama Mall, Stanford, CA 94305. Please note this is not the address for Building 550/Peterson Laboratory/d.school. The true address for our building is for a street that cannot be accessed by cars, so you’ll give the rideshare driver the address for the building across the street. When you arrive, Building 550/Peterson Laboratory/d.school will be on your right hand side.

Walking from Palo Alto / traveling by Caltrain: Walk to the Caltrain Palo Alto Station. Once at the station, take the underpass to “Southbound”/ “Buses”/ “University Ave”. From there, you’ll find “University Circle @ Platform South” where the Marguerite Shuttles pick-up/drop-off. Take Line P (Marguerite Shuttle: Line P Schedule) to the Campus Oval stop (Line P only serves University Circle and Campus Oval, so there’s no way to miss your stop!). From the Campus Oval stop, you’ll proceed on a beautiful, 10-minute walk towards the Memorial Church and our building is just behind the church. The building has many names: Peterson Laboratory, Building 550, d.school.

Driving: All visitor parking is managed through the ParkMobile app. Here is a map that shows the visitor parking locations around the Stanford campus. The closest parking to Life Design Studio location (Peterson Laboratory, Building 550, d.school) are zones: 7210 Roble Field Garage, 7231 Santa Teresa, 7238 Kingscote, and 7239 Tresidder. The map below shows the Life Design Studio location in a red circle.
